Locally known as Pleso airport, Zagreb airport is the most popular one from Croatia. It is remarkable that it serves not only as an International airport, but also as a military airport for the Croatian forces. First plans of creating an airport date from 1909, when the very first Croatian airfield was built. But of course, since then many things evolved and the airport looks amazing today. From the very beginning this airport had only one terminal which was constantly improved and upgraded. Now, the terminal occupies no less than 242,000 square feet, being able to handle more than 3,5 million passengers. Even though it has only one runway, the airport recorded almost 40,000 aircraft movements in 2012, meaning that somewhere around 100 aircrafts took off or landed daily. There are some future plans as well, which involve the building of a new terminal and adding a new runway, and they are expected to finish somewhere around 2015.
On the inside, the airport benefits of the latest technology available, making the passengers feel extremely comfortable. The restaurant is placed in a perfect position so you can view aircrafts taking off and landing, being a perfect place to wait for your next flight and also eat some great local food. In terms of shopping, you can find one store with many useful products right before the arrivals and departures area. If you need to make some financial transaction you don’t have to worry about a single thing because the airport has ATM’s, exchange office, bank and even a post office. At the moment the airport has no WiFi installed, but if you want to surf on the net you can go to the ‘internet corner’ and gain access to an internet-connected computer for a small amount of money.
Leaving the airport comes with several possibilities. The first one, and the most obvious one, is by a taxi. Taxis usually can be found in front of the terminal building and because every driver knows English, you will have an easy time communicating. A more private way of traveling is by renting a car. All you need to do is go to one of the many car renting companies which have an office inside the terminal and you’ll have your car rented within minutes. If you’re having trouble on making your way through the airport, don’t hesitate to ask one of the staff members because they’ll gladly help you. If you prefer a more public way, you can choose the transportation bus. It can be found in front of the terminal, near the taxi station. So if you ever wanted to visit Croatia, now it’s a good idea to do it. Book your plane tickets and make sure that your plane lands in Zagreb airport. You won’t be disappointed.
