5 of the Best Coastal Cities in Croatia

Charming is the word that comes to mind when you think of Croatia. It magnificently rises from the Adriatic Sea and has a great coastline measuring 3,600 miles.

There is much to do in Croatia and one way of exploring it is to visit some of its beautiful coastal cities.

Dubrovnik

This is the first place you should go to whenever you decide to explore the coast. It's an old town with a lot of beauty that sits on a Peninsula. It seems to be right in the middle of the Adriatic sea. This city is surrounded by a wall with saw-toothed granulation and you can circumnavigate Dubrovnik by traversing these high walls.

For beaches, you may go to the outskirts of the city or take a ferry and go across to nearby islands Lopud and Lokrum that have relatively quiet pebble beaches. You cannot leave this city without partaking of the exquisite meals sold in the various restaurants lining the cobbled streets of the city. This coastal town is located on a protected harbor and is the ideal place for one to access Krka National Park, where you will find the multi-tiered waterfall known as Skradinski Buk. You can enjoy a cool dip in the serene pool at the bottom of the falls. Many people carry a packed picnic meal to have as they explore the park. You can also get a sailing boat and sail behind some of the waterfalls in the park. Sibenik is a quaint and quiet town ideal for slow walks through the cobbled streets as you explore Croatian life.

This city is located around a natural harbor that is well known for its beautiful sandy beaches. There are many luxury hotels here and fantastic restaurants. This is an ideal stop over place for tourists looking for a luxurious place to stay. It is a family friendly destination as well so bring the kids. Enjoy visiting the historical sites such as the Franciscan monastery that is 500 years old. There is a museum and lots of beautiful churches with amazing architecture to admire.

This is Croatia’s version of Venice known for its romance and lots of Italian influence. Lots of architecture and Mediterranean inspired cuisine awaits you. Walk through the cobbled streets and make a point of visiting the Saint Euphemia Cathedral, a famous site of interest. Visit the Zlatni Rt Municipal Park on mainland Rovinj where you can explore great hiking trails and visit the delightful hilltop towns of Motovun and Groznjan.

Most of all be prepared to enjoy a fantastic night scene in this city because it is well known for lots of bars and clubs you will enjoy patronizing. In the daytime, enjoy your time at the beach soaking up the sun or sit at the numerous cafés and read a book or observe the way of life in this Croatian town.

This is one of the largest and most significant towns to be found on the Croatian coast. Here you will find the ancient ruins of the colossal palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The emperor’s retirement palace was built without windows because the Emperor was afraid of lurking enemies so you can imagine the other wacky architectural things you will see in this magnificent palace ruins. After this, you can enjoy a spot of shopping in the market as well as sample the cities culinary delights.
