Split airport is the third biggest airport in Croatia. It can handle up to 1.400.000 passengers. It is a very important airport in Croatia because it offers the possibility of flying to many important European cities.
On November 25, 1966 the airport was inaugurated, and it has been designed to handle only 150.000 passengers. But since it turned out to be one of the major airports in Croatia, the airport was extended, and the capacity raised to more than 1 million passengers in 1987. The airport also has some extending plans at this moment.
They want to create a new airport terminal and connect it to the existing one. This way, the capacity will increase to almost 2 million passengers. split airport has a lot of features which will make you feel like home. First of all, it has a huge parking lot with more than 500 places to park. Within 15 minutes it’s free, but afterwards you need to pay. At the ground floor they have a minimarket with all sorts of gifts and souvenirs. Also they have a bank, and a number of ATM’s where you can make transactions. If you are hungry, or you’re just looking to relax, they have a mini bar with various products, and there is also a business longue. If you want to get to the airport, there are several ways you can do it.
There is a direct public transportation route which can take directly to the airport. If you don’t like the public transportation you can choose a taxi or a ferry. But this will be slightly more expensive than public way. Also within Split airport perimeter they have a car renting company, so if you just landed and you want to get somewhere really fast, you can go there and car hire for a fair price.
