Southampton airport is located at a distance of 6 km from the city with the same name. It is the UK’s 18th largest airport, handling more than 1.700.000 passengers. Southampton Airport was built and used for the first time in 1932, but the first asphalt runway was created much later, in the 1960’s. Now it has a great success, and the owners are looking for some improvements in the near future.
If you just landed and you don’t have any option to get to Southampton, the first option is a taxi. They have a special way of getting the taxi inside the airport. First you need to go to the taxi desk near the exit and ask for a car. Within 1-2 minutes, a taxi will pick you up directly from the entrance. Alternatively, you can choose the public bus. It will take a bus approximately 40 minutes to take you from the airport to Southampton. The downside is that it runs once every 20 minutes.
The 3rd option is represented by car renting companies. If you want, you can book a car from the internet with 2-3 days before getting to Southampton Airport, or you can car hire directly from one of the many car-renting branches across the airport terminal. In terms of shopping and eating, you will find everything you need. There are 2 locations inside Southampton Airport where you can eat or drink, and one big shop where you can find luxury products such as sunglasses or watches, but also some minor souvenirs and gifts. Inside the terminal you can also find a bank, in case that you want to perform any transactions or to exchange currency. If you are running a company and you just landed with your co-workers, there is a solution in case you want to organize a quick meeting. One meeting room with 20 seats, WIFI internet connection, video projector and smart board is waiting for you.
So with all these great facilities I can say that you will never get bored if you ever reach in the Southampton area. But giving the fact that you will be treated with the highest amount of respect, I think that you should plan a trip to UK, but make sure your flight lands in Southampton. You will not regret it.
