Napier Airport, or Hawk’s Bay Airport, is a New Zealand domestic airport with limited international flight services. It is situated on State Highway 2 at Westshore, Napier, approximately 10 minutes driving distance from the Napier CBD and 20 minutes from Hastings. It provides regular daily flights to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Gisborne, Tauranga and Hamilton in addition to various freight flights with limited passenger capacity.
Landing in and booking a stay near Napier Airport puts you in the perfect place to enjoy the attractions of New Zealand. If you are visiting Napier and Hastings for the first time, you will definitely want to hang around and soak in the atmosphere of the most art deco city in the world. You can visit The Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery, the National Aquarium, the Soundshell and the Pania of the Reef statue, and explore from there. The architecture look and feel is entirely unique and much thought was put into rebuilding it after the 1931 earthquake.
While Napier Airport doesn’t have on-site hotels, Napier itself sports a wide selection to accommodate the tourism and commerce boom in the broader area around the city itself and its inland twin city of Hastings. You have plenty to choose from, ranging from the prudently priced to luxurious. Sightseeing, scenic rides, flights and excursions around Napier are best done while staying in one of them so don’t miss a chance to visit. Taxi operators will be available to take you literally anywhere from the airport itself, but renting your own car has its own obvious advantages.
Access to and from Napier Airport is available by car, car hire or taxi. Hawke's Bay Airport has three car parks for the convenience of passengers and visitors to the airport. Space in any of the car parks cannot be booked in advance, so you would do well to consider the local car renting services of which several have counters in the terminal itself. Local taxi services pride themselves on being available for rides anywhere, every day, after every flight.
Napier Airport itself provides various services. Several establishments offer a wide variety of options regarding dining and drinks, while even large business meetings can be arranged in one of the two large on-site meeting rooms. The airport even provides booking for a catering service. Tourist scenic flights can be booked and are provided by the airport, too, if you’d like to book a diversion in advance. The retail and accommodation services at Napier Airport are a bit lacking at the moment, but the tourist boom has sparked a by now well funded initiative which resulted in on-going work being done on expanding the airport services in this department. Even so, there should not be any problems with cash withdrawal, as an ATM machine is readily available in the waiting area.
