Cairns is a 448 Km2 city located in northern Queensland, Australia. It was named after the Governor, William Wellington Cairns, who ruled the town in the 18th century. This small town was once formed to serve as a route to the Goldfield at river Hodgkinson but was later closed when a better route was formed. However, because of the beautiful tropical climate, it enjoys, it has managed to stand the test of time and attract as many tourists globally.

Things to Do in Cairns
- The Great Barrier Reef- this is the place to be for some fun water activities. You can be out snorkeling, deep diving or even sail a good distance of the 2000 km stretch along Queensland coast. When you have your fair share of water, you can stroll along the palm filled island and go over to the coral islands with their magnificent rainbow hue.
- Kuranda Mountain- you only need to drive a 25kilometer distance north of Cairns to come face to face with this mountain. The mountain is covered with rainforest trees and the village of Kuranda is tucked within the forest. The area is also highly populated by the platypus.
- Port Douglas¬- on a different day, how about driving your rental about one hour from the town of Port Douglas. The beaches there are golden and the locals are talented fisherman who could teach you a lot about their culture. Port Douglas also houses some of the best resorts that are luxurious and overlook the great Queensland coastline.
- Daintree National Park- for this trip, you will need a car with good mileage to cover the 100km drive to Daintree National Park. Today it is a national heritage attraction that houses a vast number of indigenous plants and animals all cohabiting in the same ecosystem.
Cairns is a town rich in natural attractions that pull tourists from all over; from the beauty of the Kuranda mountains and people to the majestic stretch of the Great Barrier Reef.
