Annecy is a small city of about 53,000 people. Strangely enough, the population has fluctuated very little in the last 45 years. 45 years from now, in the year 2059, it may still have about 53,000 residents. The city is located in the district of the same name in the Southern and Eastern portion of France, and quite close to the border of Switzerland.
Unlike some other French cities, it seems to be relatively newer. It started out, actually, as the capital of the county of Geneva (which became part of modern-day Switzerland), and underwent some political changes starting in the early 15th century.
While at Annecy train station, you can car hire to see things that you would not see otherwise:
- Switzerland itself - This is a very popular trip from the city. There are frequent buses on Sundays and even more frequent ones on weekdays but you may want to get a car hire to get a better and more personal feel for the excursion. Either way, the trip takes about one hour in each direction.
- The lake - The city is far from the Mediterranean Sea, yet it is famous for its waters. The city has many canals; it may not have as many canals as does Venice, Italy, but it still has a surprising number. In addition, there is a very popular and large lake. Here, you can even go hang-gliding.
- Events - The best begin in June, when there is an animation festival. Animation is popular in the Western area of France, and it is popular here as well. There is an evening-night festival in July, and there is a festival by the lake, with terrific fireworks, on the first weekend of every August. This attracts about 100,000 people each year at this time.
- More exploring - If you want to get away from the crowds then it is best to arrive in Annecy in September to go to these places and get better deals on renting a car.
When I go travelling, I seek out beaches. There are no beaches here, but there is the large and popular lake, which is the next best thing. I also like to acquaint myself with the place’s unique and rich cultural history. This is evident in the Venice-like canals. For this you will need to rent a boat, but for everywhere else, contact us to car hire
